Bryan and I have been called brave a few times already since becoming parents. The first time that we went to the movies, the first time we went out of town for the weekend, and now we’re getting ready for our first flight to California. I don’t personally think it’s brave. I think it’s the best time! While I was on maternity leave, we wanted to take advantage of me having all this time off and decided to book a trip to California to visit our hometown and family.
This week I have been thinking of what we need to bring, and whether or not I need to buy another suitcase. We’ve decided to rent a car so now that we each get 2 bags to check, I figure we might as well bring everything that we think we may need. This may be my “first time Mom” dead giveaway.
So far, Marion has been extremely easy. I really hope the trend continues. That being said, I want to make sure that I don’t forget anything that I may need. MUSTS for me would be her grooming kit (this gal has so much hair), swaddling blankets, and of course a ton of clothes. You aren’t always sure if you will get a chance to do laundry, so I figure I may as well plan on not doing it.
Is there anything I’m missing?! Is it too much?! I just can’t wait to hop on that plane. It’s been in the 80′s in California! It will be such a nice break from Winter!
Colorado is a beautiful state. I love exploring and seeing everything that the state has to offer. As I mentioned in my last post, one of the greatest things about about having out-of-state visitors is showing them around, and reconnecting with your surroundings.
We decided to make sure that we visited the mountains at some point while everyone was out, and I wanted to go to my favorite little mountain town, Breckenridge, CO. It’s a great spot that reminded me of Park City, UT the first time that I visited. It’s also the real location of where Dumb & Dumber was shot when they were in “Aspen.” We had unusually warm weather here in Denver, so I was afraid that the mountains wouldn’t be very snowy. They were though! We rode around in the gondolas, ate hot mini donuts, drank coffee, and walked around the city. It’s the perfect spot really if you want to just get away and see something beautiful and very “Colorado.”
Today is the day! I’m hittin’ the road with Bryan, Buster & Lucille and heading to Utah for Christmas. I will be taking a little bit of a break, but I am sure everyone else will.
See you soon and Merry Christmas!
Now for more photos from my phone! As I mentioned on Tuesday, my Mother, Sister and I went up to Estes Park, CO for a few days of Mother/Daughter time. It was incredibly beautiful. On the 2nd and 3rd day, we drove into Rocky Mountain National Park and went on a couple short hikes. The views were amazing.
The first day it rained until around 1pm, but as soon as it cleared up… there were crystal clear skies. We saw trout, elk, and deer throughout the days, and also some lovely little birds. There is just something about the mountains that makes you feel so at peace. I need to get out there more!
Beginning last year, my Mother, Sister and I are started a yearly tradition of a bonding trip. Last year we spent 3 days in Vegas and enjoyed shopping, gambling and got to see The Beatles’ LOVE. This year, the two ladies did me a giant favor by flying out here and making it a Colorado visit. We spent 3 days together and the first begin here in Denver before we traveled up to Estes, Park for some dinner and tea before playing games.
I was able to take them quickly to Crema in the morning and then we stopped by OMF to see their preparations for their big day. I am so proud of them and it was very special to share all of what Bryan and the boys have done with my family.
I will be posting more from our trip, but these are from Day 1 here in Denver.
So thankful for these strong women.
Guess who won…
