A few weeks back, we were visited by the Bowerbirds. They have been one of my favorite bands for a couple of years now, or rather my favorite band. Now that they are taking a good break from touring the country and playing for all of us, they have decided to spend some time in their hand-built cabin and get working on a new album. As a lover of all things DIY, I was so impressed to learn more about their cabin while they were visiting. It’s truly a unique space.
They are looking for some help completing their cabin/recording studio. The space is quite impressive, especially because they built it themselves. There are just a few more projects that need to be done in order to get everything in working order. Completed, it will run on solar power and be built with recycled and nontoxic materials. They will not only live there, but also put in a DIY recording studio area. They are amazing musicians and artists, and deserve to continue to make beautiful music in their hand-crafted home.
Their kickstarter is up and is now accepting backers. There are a ton of different “thank you” gifts, and most involving hearing their new music before anyone else.
Learn more about them in their kickstarter video.
I love how they describe the project in their own words…
There is a certain magic that you can only get when working alone, on your own time, but which can sometimes be offset by less fidelity in the recordings, if you don’t have good enough equipment to work with. That’s why we want to be able to work in our own space, with a modest amount of good recording equipment, so we can work when the inspiration strikes, and make final recordings at any step in the process, rather than making detailed demos, and then having to start over to make final recordings. We believe that recording our music in a place we created especially for that purpose, by ourselves, will result in better, more inspired, recordings, for less money and in less time, than it would to make an album in rented space, on rented time.
This week has been eventful and full of surprises. From late nights to snow, it’s been completely unpredictable.
On Tuesday, some friends and I saw one of our favorite bands, Bowerbirds. They were amazing and blew me away. We invited them to visit the brewery after for a tour and tasting and they all came. I love opportunities to spend time with people who you admire. They were so humble and friendly, and we were excited to share Bryan’s passion with them. If you have not listened to them, please please do yourself a favor and go listen right now.
During the making of their latest album, they also made this video which really shows a unique view into their lives.
This weekend marks one of my favorite times of year, Halloween. I am pretty excited about my costume this year and actually have the option to dress up twice this weekend. I am going to be one of my teenage heroes, Daria.
While it’s cold here, I am so looking forward to a marvelous weekend.
Recently, Denver’s own Our Mutual Running Club made its first music video appearance in local band, Princess Music’s video for their song White Wave. Created and edited by the talented Luca Venter, this video features a group of good looking people (and dogs). Watch closely for some sightings of me and my friends. Did I mention this song is beautiful?
Hopefully you have seen Moonrise Kingdom, the new film from Wes Anderson. I need to go see it again because it is in the running to be my favorite Anderson movie. I fell in love with the music in the film and have been googling and spotifying (new word!) for Moonrise playlists. The original score is also quite amazing.
So happy today to discover 8tracks.com’s Moonrise playlists that they created for the different characters in the movie. I have been listening all day while I do some pretty daunting work. I am always in search of music I can work to because I am very particular. The 1960′s tracks add so much to this film, that just listening to these tracks puts me right back in the theater.
